Assembly Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday adjourned the House for 15 minutes as the Opposition parties and treasury benches traded charges and counter charges on Brahmani Steels, promoted by Karnataka Tourism Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, who was facing allegations against Obulapuram Mining Corporation, in Jammalamadugu mandal of Kadapa district, during the question hour.
Both treasury and Opposition members created pandemonium in the House and heated arguments exchanged between them on mining mafia in the state.
Opposition Telugu Desam Party leader N Chandrababu Naidu charged the Congress party that it is backing the mining mafia and inflicting heavy losses to the exchequer in crores.
He also alleged that the State Government flouted all norms in providing the necessary clearance to set up Brahmani Steels in Kadapa district.
However, Industries Minister Kanna Laxminarayana rebutted the Opposition charges and asked N Chandrababu Naidu to hold his tongue. He also dared Naidu for discussion on the issue.
Protesting Industries Minister’s remark on the Opposition leader, the TDP members marched towards the Speaker’s podium.
After repeated pleas to TDP members failed to yield result, sensing trouble, the Speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
The Speaker said that both Opposition and treasury bench members’ unsavory comments would be removed from the Assembly records.
