It is recalled that a total of 170 districts across India have been declared the Red Zones in them strict rules of lockdown would be imposed without any relaxations in those hotspots. In AP alone, 11 districts were kept under Red Zones based on a minimum of 15 corona positive cases reported in every district. Srikakulam and Vizianagaram, however, will be treated green zones with no single corona positive case reported in those districts.
A shocking fact is that 73% area of AP has now come under Red Zone while rest of the area falls under green zone. And this is said to be the highest percentage of Red Zone state in India.
Meanwhile, the AP government alleged that there is no scientific approach followed in the classification of red, orange and green zones.
"Had the union government taken 'Mandal' as a criterion in lieu of 'district', it could have been the best way of classifying the zones," YSRCP's Sakshi media reported. According to the media, 86.8% area of AP could have come under green zone had mandal been taken as a unit for zones division.
On the other hand, AP has just 13 districts whereas Telangana has 31 districts. Obviously, every district of AP is quite larger than any single district of Telangana. The union government hadn't assessed all these parameters and unilaterally declared 11 out of 13 as Red Zones in the AP. Eventually, maximum number of people in AP won't get the relaxations that orange and green zone people of other states enjoy from 21st of April.
