Union Minister for Law and Justice M. Veerappa Moily on Wednesday stated that the Congress party would contest in the by-elections to the seats which fell vacant because of the resignation of 10 Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) and one BJP legislators on the separate Telangana issue recently.
Talking to media, AICC general secretary and in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs said `` whenever the Election Commission declares notification for by-elections, the Congress would contest for all the seats.''
When asked about the Joint Action Committee demand for unanimous election of candidates, he observed that in a democratic set up, there is nothing wrong in contesting for by-elections.
Talking on expansion of State Cabinet, he said “If the Chief Minister comes out with necessary proposals, I would take up the matter with High Command”.
On `free zone’ issue, he said I would react only after going through the Supreme Court report.
He also made it clear that sub-quota for backward classes were not possible in the Women’s Reservation Bill due to non-availability Census statistics.
He said the Women’s Reservation Bill approved by the Upper House would be tabled in Lok Sabha in the month of April.
