Why should the Kanchi seer induge in Telangana matters? May his soul rest in peace, said the angry supporters of Telangana Rashtra Samithi who burnt the effigy of the seer on Tuesday. Resenting the statements made by Swami Jayendra Saraswathi on Telangnana, the TRS activists not only staged a dharna, but also burnt an effigy of the Seer in front of the Skandagiri temple in Secunderabad in the day. The Skandagiri Murugan Temple in Padmarao Nagar is frequented by the Hindu pontiff.
Demanding that the Hindu pontiff take back his statements on Telangana, Telangana Rashtra Samiti activists said as a religious leader he had no right to speak on behalf of any particular region.
Jayendra Saraswathi immediately clarified that he was only talking about the benefits of staying together and that he never said there should not be a separate Telangana. He said he made the statements in response to those who kept asking him about his opinion on the T- issue.
