Telangana Nagara chairman and Nagarkurnool MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Thursday accused the State Government of suppressing the demand for statehood for Telangana region.

Talking to reporters at Kachiguda Police Station, Nagam alleged that by arresting the leaders, the government was trying to encroach upon their right to hold peaceful protests. He said that the government has ignored the fact that nearly 900 people committed suicide for the cause of statehood for Telangana and it was also suppressing the voice of leaders who were speaking about them.

Holding some Seemandhra leaders responsible for the delay in decision on Telangana by the Centre, he said that both the Congress and Telugu Desam Party were creating obstacles in the formation of Telangana. He alleged that both the parties have been cheating the people of the region by making contradictory statements.

Nagam demanded that the Telangana ministers and MLAs of Congress party resign from their posts to create constitutional crisis so as to pressurise the Centre to take favourable decision on Telangana.

Earlier, the police arrested Janardhan Reddy when he visited Telangana Political Joint Action Committe chairman Prof M Kodandaram's house at Tarnaka. Since Prof Kodandaram was kept under house arrest, Nagam was also taken into custody and was shifted to Kachiguda Police Station.
