Communist Party of India state secretary K Narayana on Friday announced that his party would not contest the ensuing by-elections to be held in 18 Assembly seats and one Parliament seat in the State.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of meeting with Cpi(M) state secretary B V Raghavulu at his party office at RTC cross roads, he said that the party unanimously took a decision not to contest the next by-elections due to changed political equations in the State. However, he said the Cpi would extend its support to Telugu Desam Party in the ensuing by-elections from all constituencies, except Parakala Assembly constituency, where it would support the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
As the ruling Congress party has totally failed to address the people’s issues in the state, Narayana said that the Cpi has decided to support opposition Telugu Desam Party in the by-elections. He said that there was no question of extending support to Cpi(M) in the by-elections from any constituency, as reported earlier. However, he claimed that the decision would not affect the unity and relations of Left parties.
Admitting that differences exist between the Left parties, he said that the Cpi would have forged an alliance with the Cpi (M) in the by-elections if it would have mutually benefitted the left parties. He said that the Cpi might also have a tie-up with the TRS in 2014 general elections.
