Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Wednesday described the Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress as "family parties".
Addressing a by-election campaign in Kadapa district after paying rich tributes to social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule to mark his 186th Jayanthi, the PCC chief alleged that the family parties would not work to protect the national interests and try to serve their families’ selfish interests.
Unlike Telugu Desam and YSR Congress parties which are run by family members, Botsa claimed that the Congress was a national party and run by freedom fighters and leaders to protect the national interests. He came down heavily on YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy for his rationale behind continuing Odarpu Yatra despite the death of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy two years ago. He accused Jagan of continuing his Odapu Yatra with an eye on the Chief Minister’s post.
Describing the former chief minister YSR as an asset of Congress, Botsa Satyanarayana said that he would not criticize YSR in the by-elections campaign as it would prove costly for the Congress party.
