Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the West Godavari district administration to take up rehabilitation measures in the Polavaram irrigation project on war-footing.
Talking to media persons after having a meeting with the Chief Minister on the issue at Jubilee Hall during the Collectors' Conference, West Godavari District Collector Vani Prasad said that the Chief Minister has asked about the progress of resettlement and rehabilitation works for victims of Polavaram irrigation project. The Chief Minister said that top priority should be given for rehabilitation and resettlement of the victims in the project, she said.
The meeting also focused on establishment of 6,000 colonies for Girijans, who would be affected due to the construction of the project. The Collector also drew the Chief Minister’s attention over the shortage of water for Rabi crops due to drastic fall in water level in the river Godavari. She said that nearly 50 percent of canals in river Godavari delta were dry due to shortage of water.
The Chief Minister also asked the collector about the other problems in the district.
