Samantha's Shaakuntalam which is an adaptation of the Sanskrit play Abhigyanam Shakuntalam by Kalidasa is due for its release on 17th February. The reason citing for this postponement is Bollywood film Shehzada which was initially slated to release on 10th February is now releasing on 17th February. The reason behind Shehzada's postponement is the single screens in Hindi belt are not willing to replace Pathaan which is doing exceptionally well with Shehzada. So, to avert clash with Shehzada, Shaakuntalam which is also eyeing for a Pan India Release has decided to move to a later date.
Makers today released an official note regarding the postponement of Shaakuntalam stating, " We regret to inform our beloved audience that we would not be able to release Shaakuntalam this 17th of February, we would be announcing the release date soon. Thank you for your continued support and love". This statement just made the news official which is already a confirmed news since last week.
Shaakuntalam was first announced to release on 4th November last year. But, in last minute citing the pending of 3D work the film was moved to 17th February. Then, Samantha's another film Yashoda was released on 11th November. Now, we have to see when will Shaakuntalam will hit the screens. Gunasekhar directed this film while his daughter Neelima Guna has produced it. Dil Raju also co-producing the film under his SVC banner. Mani Sharma is the music director.
