Rajamouli Explains Why He Released the Varanasi Glimpse

SS Rajamouli has explained why he released a glimpse of Varanasi instead of describing its story in detail. During an interview with a Japanese YouTube channel, the director said words could not fully explain the film’s world. He wanted audiences to see the scale and experience the atmosphere themselves.
The upcoming film stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Rajamouli said the glimpse was designed to introduce viewers to the film’s setting and the kind of adventure they could expect, without revealing too much of the plot. This approach has added to the curiosity surrounding Varanasi.
Varanasi is planned as a large scale adventure that travels across different locations, from Antarctica and Africa to the city of Varanasi. Rajamouli has also highlighted the emotional bond between a father and son as a key part of the story. Prithviraj plays the antagonist, Kumbha, while M. M. Keeravani handles the music.
Rajamouli has described Varanasi as a project much bigger in scale than RRR, reportedly calling it six times larger. He has said most filming is complete, with visual effects and post production forming the next major stage. Produced by K. L. Narayana under Durga Arts, the film is scheduled for a worldwide release on April 7, 2027.
