Tollywood which tried in vain to convince the AP government regarding the ticket prices has been hoping against hope that in the coming days, the controversial ticket prices in theatres and the number of shows issues in Andhra Pradesh will be resolved soon for their benefit. It is known that Tollywood celebrities for long have been trying their best to convince the AP government headed by CM Jagan Mohan Reddy to repeal the controversial GO slashing the ticket prices in theatres and putting a cap on a number of shows.
But AP government is in no mood to listen and Balakrishna's Akhanda which was released in this heat performed exceptionally well at the box office. Had the controversial GO not been in place, the makers would have made even bigger profits. Tollywood has been hoping that they will get exemption during Sankranti from the Government in AP with regards to the number of shows and ticket rates.
However, minister Perni Nani sounded a death knell by making it clear that there will be no question of increasing the number of shows, giving permission to benefit shows or fan shows, or early premiers. This will impact the performances of big films like Rajamouli's RRR, Prabhas' Radhe Shyam, and Pawan Kalyan's Bheemla Nayak. Not to leave behind Allu Arjun's Pushpa. Many feel that AP government in its effort to show its power to settle scores with a few top stars like Pawan Kalyan, Balakrishna, and others in the ego clash is killing Tollywood for a few pounds more.
In the battle of egos, many associated with the industry are suffering huge losses and exhibitors and theatre owners are on the verge of closing their shop. It has to be seen when better sense prevail on the powers that be.
