Director Teja has come up with some sensational comments on Prince Mahesh's 'Nijam'. 'Had Mahesh not been the hero of 'Nijam', the movie would have become a blockbuster'," he broke out. Justifying his comments he also added, " I actually started this project when Mahesh delivered an utter flop with 'Bobby'. I thought 'Nijam' would present a new angle of Mahesh that would be impressed by the audience. However, 'Okkadu's blockbuster result made Mahesh a big mass star. As Mahesh's mother directs him to kill the goons in the movie, audience could not digest Mahesh seen in that role and so the movie was flopped. Had the movie been made with Nithiin or Uday Kiran, it would have become a blockbuster'.
Although the screen play and direction of Teja were good, critics then felt that there were enough flaws in Mahesh's characterization in the film. In most of the scenes, Mahesh cries while uttering dialogues in emotional sequences.
Mahesh won Nandi Award for 'Nijam' and got benefited doing the movie at the end of the day. On the other hand, Mahesh's uncle Adhi Seshagiri Rao was also reportedly holding the respectable position as a member of Nandi Awards Jury Committee then while Superstar Krishna was busy doing a couple of movies.
