Preity Zinta Files Plea in Bombay HC Against Deepfakes AI Morphed Content

Bollywood actor Preity Zinta moved the Bombay High Court Friday seeking removal of AI generated deepfake photos, morphed videos, and unauthorized chatbot content. Justice Madhav Jamdar directed platforms to consult and build a mechanism for takedown. The matter is posted for July 6.
Preity Zinta’s petition said AI tools created deepfakes using her face for ads and promotions without consent. She sought permanent restraint on publishing morphed material, citing violation of personality rights. Online forums noted rising celebrity deepfake cases, demanding stricter platform accountability and faster content removal.
The HC order asks all respondents to establish an effective removal mechanism for objectionable AI content. Preity Zinta claimed the deepfakes harm her popularity and private life. Social media users praised her legal step, calling deepfakes a growing threat to actors.
Delhi and Bombay High Courts previously protected personality rights of stars like Allu Arjun, Mohanlal, Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Karan Johar, Nagarjuna, Pawan Kalyan, and others. Experts say Preity Zinta’s case may set precedent for AI regulation, urging tech firms to deploy proactive detection tools.
