Alleging that the Chair was not giving due representation to the Opposition members to raise questions during Question Hour, Telugu Desam Party members on Wednesday staged a walkout in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.

The Tdp members, led by floor leader D Veerabhadra Rao alleged that the Chair was not giving a chance to the Opposition to raise supplementary questions, even as Higher Education Minister D Sridhar Babu was replying to a question raised by YVB Rajendra Prasad and M Padmaja both from the Tdp and staged a walkout of the House.

The walkout took place even as Chairman A Chakrapani tried, in vain, to pacify the members by stating that he was providing equal chance to all the members in the House, irrespective of parties.

Earlier, Mr Sridhar Babu said the Centre had not de-recognised any deemed university in the state and at present there were eight universities in the state with deemed university status.

He said 16 universities in the state had applied for the No-Objection Certificate and as per the recommendations of the State Council of Higher Education, the government had requested the University Grants Commission to consider conferring the  deemed university to eight of them.
