Lately, religious heads are coming out into the open expressing their opinion on the bifurcation of the state, which is very sensitive issue. Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati, the head of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, who was here on Tuesday to visit Sri Venkateswara temple, said he was in favour of an integrated State.
Speaking to newsmen here, he said ``it would be a blunder to divide Andhra Pradesh. I meet many people visiting Kanchi from Telangana region. When I ask them whether they want Telangana, most of them say they do not want to separate and it is only the political leaders who are trying to divide the Telugu people," Jayendra Saraswati observed.
"If Telangana is separated, then the Maoist problem would escalate further in the Telangana region. Other religions would dominate over Hindus in the region," he added.
However, the Shankaracharya later said he was only expressing an opinion. If the people really want to get separated, no one can stop it," he said.
Referring to Shankaracharya's comments, Telangana Rashtra Samiti leader Eetela Rajendar asked him to confine himself to religious discourses. Congress leader Gutta Sukhendar Reddy too slammed Jayendra's comments.
