The Telangana Congress party on Saturday claimed that it was strong enough to contest and win the ensuing elections alone.
Reacting to the decision of TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao of not having an alliance with the Congress, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that the Congress party has a strong cadre and organisational set-up in Telangana region and it does not need any allies to win the elections. He said that it was KCR who offered to merge his party with the Congress and later, he had also set up a committee led by K Keshav Rao to explore the options of having an alliance. Now KCR is trying to give an impression as if Congress was behind the TRS seeking merger or alliance, he said.
Ponnala said that the Congress party only reacted to the different offers made by the TRS. He announced that the Congress party would contest on all seats on its own in the ensuing elections. He asked KCR to explain as to what led him to make the offers of merger and alliance and later backtrack on them.
