The Delhi High Court on Friday directed former Congress leader N D Tiwari to undergo DNA test in connection with paternity suit filed by Rohit Shekhar, who claims to be Tiwari’s biological son.

While issuing these orders, the High Court observed the police can intervene if necessary to collect the DNA sample from Tiwari.

The court set aside the single judge’s order that veteran Congress leader cannot be forced to give blood smears in paternity suit.

Earlier, the court asked the Tiwari to undergo DNA test. However, he refused to undergo DNA test and challenged it in the Supreme Court. The apex court refused to issue stay order in the case.

In his petition, Rohit Shekhar claimed that Tiwari had a relationship with his mother Ujjwala Sharma and stated Tiwari was his father.

In earlier court hearings, he has produced dozens of photographs that show Mr Tiwari attending various family functions including Rohit's birthday celebrations.

But Tiwari argued that being forced to share a blood sample violates his right to privacy and described it as an attempt to malign his image.
