Telugu Desam Party deputy flood leader Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu on Thursday stated that the TDP was opposed to bauxite mining in the agency areas of Visakhapatnam district.
Talking to media persons at the Telugu Desam Legislature Party Office, Muddukrishnama Naidu said that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu himself was opposed to mining of bauxite and announced the same in the year 2000 considering its impact on the environment. If the government goes ahead with the bauxite mining, he said that it would affect the livelihood of tribals and jeopardize their interests.
Muddukrishnama Naidu said that the government would face dire consequences if it goes ahead with bauxite permits violating the environment rules and regulations. He said that the government would have to face the Central Bureau of Investigation probe on the lines of Obulapuram Mining Corporation if it sanctions permits for bauxite mining. He demanded that the government immediately stop giving permits for bauxite mining as the tribals were ready to launch a massive agitation against the decision.
Unlike other states, he asked as to why Congress secretary Rahul Gandhi was not opposing the mining leases in Andhra Pradesh.
TDP Mahila wing president Shobha Hymawathi was also present.
