Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development D Purandareswari on Thursday said that there is no connection between the demand of a separate Telangana statehood and the second States Reorganisation Committee. Talking to media persons after the police thwarted an attempt by pro-Telangana activists to pelt stones at her convoy at Sultanpur in Timmapur mandal in Karimnagar district, the Union Minister of State said that the Centre was considering appointing a second SRC following a request made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. She also clarified that she had stated that other separate statehood demands could also be included in the second SRC and stated that she had not mentioned Telangana specifically. Ms Purandareswari added that Centre will announce a clear decision on Telangana soon after discussing it with the parties concerned. The police had to resort to lathi-charge and chase away the Telangana activists when they blocked Ms Purandareswari’s convoy and tried to pelt it with stones. The pro-Telangana activists were objecting to her alleged reference that Telangana could be included in the second States Reorganisation Committee. The protestors, raising Jai Telangana slogans, demanded that the MoS withdraw her comments. Ms Purandareswari was returning to Karimnagar district after attending a programme at Kendriya Vidyala School.
