Movie lovers across the country are waiting eagerly for the release of Maniratnam's dream project Ponniyin Selvan. The film is being made lavishly in two parts and the first part is releasing on September 30, 2022. The film's promotions generated immense interest among movie lovers. The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan.

Even as fans are excited, the makers got a huge shock when the film landed in controversy. A lawyer by the name, Selvam approached the court filing a petition alleging that the makers are misrepresenting the facts. He in his petition said that Aditya Karikalan portrayed by Maniratnam did not sport a Tilak. Aditya Karikalan was the Chola King played by Vikram. While Vikram's first look did not show any tilak, the teaser showed Vikram having a tilak. The Cholas don't have Naamam (a vertical traditional mark on the forehead), while Vikram, who is playing the role of Adithya Karikalan in 'Ponniyin Selvan', was seen with the Naamam on his forehead, in the teaser of the film.

Following this, the court slapped notices on Maniratnam and Vikram. It has to be seen how they will react to the court notice. The film stars Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Ashwin Kakamanu starring in pivotal roles. Rahman is the music director.
