The airport appearance comes shortly after their episode on Karan Johar's Koffee With Karan Season 9 sparked considerable discussion online. During the conversation, Rashmika revealed that she had asked Vijay to marry her, but he wanted her to repeat the question several times. She eventually kept asking him for nearly a year before he agreed. Vijay explained that he wanted to test their relationship through different situations before making such an important decision. His comments were criticised by some viewers, who questioned his approach towards Rashmika.

Both actors later responded to the criticism surrounding their relationship, with Rashmika explaining her perspective and Vijay also taking a dig at online trolls through social media. The couple married on February 26, 2026, in Udaipur after dating for several years. They first met during Geetha Govindam and later reunited for Dear Comrade. They were also recently seen together in Rahul Sankrityan's period action drama Ranabaali.
