Did Rahman not compose Oscar Winning Jai Ho. During an interview , director and film writer Ram Gopal Varma recounted an intriguing incident involving director Subhash Ghai and music maestro A.R. Rahman. Ghai, while working on the film "Yuvvraaj" starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, did not initially consider Rahman's composition "Jai Ho" suitable for the film.

Varma revealed that Rahman sought assistance from singer Sukhwinder Singh to create the melody for "Jai Ho" because Ghai was eager to have the song ready as soon as possible. However, when "Yuvvraaj" did not materialize, Rahman repurposed "Jai Ho" for "Slumdog Millionaire."

Upon learning of this, Ghai confronted Rahman, questioning why he had involved Sukhwinder in the composition process when Rahman was the one being paid significantly for his work. Ghai expressed that if he had wanted Sukhwinder to compose the song, he would have hired him instead of Rahman.

Rahman responded to Ghai's inquiry with a memorable reply, stating that he was paid for his name and the brand value it carried, rather than for the specific work he was supposed to do. He emphasized that anything produced under his name would be considered an ARR musical. Rahman further challenged Ghai, questioning how he would ever know who actually composed the music, suggesting that even Rahman's driver could have contributed to the composition.

Despite the controversy, "Jai Ho" went on to achieve remarkable success, winning an Oscar, Golden Globe, Grammy, and BAFTA, catapulting Rahman's career to new heights. The revelation that the song was not solely composed by Rahman, but involved collaboration with Sukhwinder Singh, sheds light on the dynamics of fame, net worth, and brand value in the film industry, often overshadowing authentic hard work and talent.
