The high octane match between India and Pakistan turned out to be virtually a one-sided contest. Pakistan crushed India to start its world cup campaign on a winning note. This is for the first time, Pakistan won against India in a world cup match. Pakistan openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan scored unbeaten half-centuries to crush India by ten wickets after being set a below-par target of 152 runs. Babar Azam scored 68(52) while Rizwan scored 78(55) as Pakistan chased down the target with 13 balls to spare without losing a wicket.

Earlier, put in to bat India got off to a disastrous start losing the openers with just 6 runs on the board. It was left only for captain Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant to enable India to reach a decent total. However, with the due factor coming into play, Indian bowlers found it difficult to grip the ball and posed to real problem to the Pakistani openers. Both Babar Azam and Rizwan treated experienced Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneswar Kumar, and Md. Shami with utter disdain. Ravindra Jadeja and Varun Chakravarthy though reined them initially, they cut lose later. Indian fans will be extremely disappointed with the loss against Pakistan though it is not the end of the road to Men in Blue's World Cup campaign.
