The State Government has no plans to downsize the number of ration cards, stated Civil Supplies Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao in the Legislative Council on Friday.
Replying to members’ querries, the Minister said the government would weed out bogus ration cards and those of consumers who are ineligible. When the members expressed concern over weeding of cards by the Civil Supplies authorities, the Minister said the officials would only identify the bogus cardholders.
He said a large number of ration cards in the State have been eliminated from the database as they were found to be bogus. Fresh ration cards would be issued to eligible applicants after verification of the bogus cards.
