Lathicharge on students heats up Council

The lathicharge on students of Osmania University rocked the Legislative Council here on Thursday.

As soon as the Council met, Telangana Rashtra Samiti members condemned the police excesses on OU students and raised slogans demanding action against the police. The members protested as Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy rose to speak on the violence on OU campus. Congress MLC Mohan Reddy and Indra Sen frequently obstructed to the Minister’s speech and trooped into the Speaker’s podium.

Indra Sen said that Andhra activists were inciting the Telangana members by their statements in the media. 

Meanwhile, charges and counter-charges between the Andhra and Telangana leaders in the Council led to verbal clashes. However, MLC Jupudi Prabhakar Rao tried to pacify the agitated members.

Later, Home Minister narrated the series of events that led to police lathicharge and the consequent violence on Osmania University.
