The only reason why ‘Papanasam’ movie released few days ago in Tamil Nadu is getting tremendous response is due to the presence of Kamal Hasan as hero. Being a faithful remake of original Malayalam version of ‘Drishyam,’ writer and director Jeethu Joseph hasn’t made any big changes to script because he wanted to maintain the purity in theme to last forever in the Tamil film.
After Mohal Lal doing the character at first in ‘Drishyam,’ his histrionics and body language stood as baseline textbook for Venkatesh in Telugu version and K Ravichandran in Kannada. When both these versions are a super hit, we cannot undermine the caliber of Venky and Ravichandran. Yet, we cannot place Kamal Hasan into the same grove.
Reviews from top and reliable news agencies have written it straight. Kamal Hasan pitched his performance at a more cinematic level than what Mohan Lal did in ‘Drishyam.’ As Mohal Lal is also a pure performer, film scholars are going to do a research on who is better and which approach is better, whether it is Kamal or Mohan Lal? Final verdict is common, Kamal Hasan is just terrific. Despite a known fact that comparisons are ought to come between Tamil and Malayalam versions, hats off to Kamal for showing crafty intelligence as Syambhu Lingam.
