Karan Johar Steps Into Malayalam Cinema With Odiyan

Karan Johar is making his Malayalam debut with Odiyan The Age of Illusion. The film is made by Dharma Productions and Prithviraj Productions together. Prithviraj Sukumaran and Manju Warrier play the lead roles. Rahul Sadasivan will direct the movie. He is known for films like Bhoothakaalam and Bramayugam.
Karan shared the news on Instagram and said he is happy to work with trusted partners. He added that Malayalam films have strong stories and bold ideas. He always wanted to join that space. Rahul’s vision and Prithviraj’s support made this the right project to start with. The story is set in 19th century Kerala and is based on old local myths.
Odiyan The Age of Illusion tells the story of a shape shifter from Kerala legend. The tale moves around a powerful family and a fight between truth and illusion. It mixes myth, fear and mind games. Prithviraj said the Odiyan story is close to Kerala culture and passed down for years. He wanted to bring it to screen with respect for the roots. The film will release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
This gives it reach across India. Fans are already talking online about the fresh and darker version of the legend. People remember the 2018 Odiyan film but this one promises a new style. The team includes Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta and Supriya Menon as producers. Shooting and release dates will be shared soon by the makers.
