Energetic Hero Ram Pothineni and Dashing Director Puri Jagannadh are known for their mass masala entertainers. However after scoring blockbuster iSmart Shankar, the duo failed to recreate magic with their last few films. While Ram Pothineni suffered setbacks, Puri Jagannath got a huge shock in form of Liger. Now they are coming with Double iSmart, sequel to their hit film iSmart Shankar. Let us see how the duo entertained viewers with Double iSmart.
Double iSmart story is all about a happy go lucky youngster who is targeted by a deadly durg lord for a mission and how he overcomes the challenges posed by him.
iSmart Shankar (Ram Pothineni) leads a carefree life and he falls on love for a beautiful girl (Kavya Thapar). But his happy personal and romantic life takes a startling turn when he is targeted by deadly durg lord Big Bull (Sanjay Dutt). Why Shankar is targeted by Big Bull and how RAW chief Parameswaran (Shayaji Shinde), Pochamma(Jhansi) and others from the interesting part of the narration.
Ram Pothineni is at his energetic best in his role. He continued from where he left on iSmart Shankar. His dialogue delivery, mannerisms, accent, expressions and emotions are good. He danced well to the mass beats.
Kavya Thapar is ok in her role and she doled ample beauty treat flaunting her curves and dancing to special songs at every single opportunity.
Sanjay Dutt made his Tollywood entry with this film. He made his presence felt with his macho physique and towering screen presence. But the dubbing for him turned out to be disappointing.
Jhansi made an impact with her emotional performance. Ali irritated with his role. Others like Shayaji Shinde, Makarand Desh Pande are ok with their performances. Pragati overreacted to irritate all.
The story of Double iSmart penned by Puri Jagannadh is the continuation of his blockbuster hit iSmart Shankar. Puri tried to be creative talking about memory transfer from one brain to another in two humans.
However, he failed to generate interest as he came up with routine narration and plot. His story and narration is similar to his previous films and he followed the same template. He started with the mother sentiment, before introducing the villian and then elevating the heroism before highlighting the romantic elements.
All this turned out to be predictable and nothing new. The romantic track lacked novelty and he went overboard. There are many double meaning dialogues in the romantic track and also in the songs. The so called and much hyped comedy track of Ali looked irritating and out of sync with the story. He used all the female characters to objectify.
The interval bang increases interest over the second half but everything turns out to be disappointing and pretty ordinary. Finally the film ends in a monotonous manner bringing relief to the movie lovers.
Puri Jagannadh failed with his story, screenplay and direction. Story tuned out to be outdated and screenplay and direction is extremely disappointing. The dialogues and scenes mostly promoted sexual overtures.
Mani Sharma's music tuned out to be pretty ordinary. He came up with mass beats to start fans. His background music is in sync with the storyline. Sam K Naidu, Gianni Gaiannelli's cinematography is just ok. He didn't do anything extraordinary. Karthika Srinivas' editing left a lot of be desired. Production values are ok.
Altogether, Double iSmart turns out to be outdated mass actioner. Ram Pothineni tried his best to carry the film on his shoulders with his intense performance but Puri Jagannadh failed him completely with the lackluster script. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2.25 rating for Double iSmart.
