Dramatic End To World Cup Final!
In what you call the most dramatic game in the history of cricket, England won the final to grab their first World Cup Trophy. Though New Zealand leveled the score in super over, England as per the ICC norms is declared as the winner.
After winning the toss, New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson chose to bat first. They put in 241 on board, challenging England to make 242 to win the match and the trophy. The match was never one-sided at any stage. While New Zealand put more pressure on England with their exceptional bowling and fielding, it was Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler who took their team almost home.
After Buttler got out, Stokes took the responsibility to finish the game. It was life time performance from Stokes who could level the score in a nail-biting game. In fact, luck too favored England. Boult dropped a catch of Stokes in last over and an overthrow by Guptil cost them 4 additional runs.
England nominated Stokes and Buttler as their two openers, wherein Trent Boult is given the ball. Stokes and Buttler duo scored 15 runs in the over, asking England to cross the mark.
Martin Guptill and Jimmy Neesham were the openers from New Zealand and the inexperienced J Archer was given the ball. Started off with a wide, Archer then gave 2 and 6 in his next two balls.
New Zealand needed 7 to win in 4 balls which appeared to be an easy task. But, Archer came back strongly and bowled three good deliveries. NZ required 2 runs to win. Guptill who played his first ball in the super over hit the last ball towards mid-wicket and when he was running for second run, Jason Roy threw the ball to keeper Buttler who dived to break the wicket. Guptill was well short of the crease.
Ben Stokes is awarded the player of the match, while Kane Williamson received the Player of the Tournament.
You might have seen many nail-biting matches, but this final between the winner England and the runner-up New Zealand is obviously the best among them.
