Arjun Reddy Broke All The Sentiments

Paruchuri Gopala Krishna is hailed as Rush King for his judgment on films. He said his brother Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao used to get surprised by his judgment and when he was giving his judgment about Balakrishna's Lorry Diver and suggesting changes in the rushes, his brother called him 'Rush King'.

He said "Generally films will be viewed in two ways. While people view it in a different manner, industry people view it in another way. Industry people watch previews with love or anger. Movie lovers watch them without all those feelings and so their judgment will be different. When I watch the rushes, I become a common man. I get tears during emotional scenes and laugh during comedy scenes. My children make fun of me saying 'look, how he is watching his own film as though he is seeing a new one"'.

Paruchuri continued, "I do not know but some reason, even if it happens to be my film when I watch it on screen, I forget everything. I do not remember my dialogues also. This is God's gift. A German theatre practitioner Eugen Berthold Friedrich Brecht did many films on German soldiers and II world war. While watching those films many people suffered heart attack and lost their lives. So people came with Berthold Brecht effect. He made it clear that film or drama shouldn't have the same mood. When I watched Narasimha Naidu rushes, I remarked, 'It will become Andhra Sholay but we should remove 3000 ft in the first half and added second-half should have 3000 ft'.

We couldn't edit even a single scene in the second half. First half is not that tight. B Gopal and Chinni Krishna made some changes and showed it to me. I told 'Now In this film Sholay is missing. Only Andhra is left'. So they asked me to edit the film. According to them, the first half ends with villains dropping their knives after watching Balakrishna getting down from the train. I placed it in the fourth reel and turned interval scene with people remarking 'Annayyalu pelliki ravatledu'.

Everyone knows the sensation the film created. Director makes every scene with lot of hard work but at the editing table, if one finds it unwanted length, they should edit mercilessly."

He went on to add, "While ANR, Sobhan Babu, Jagapathi Babu sacrifice, people will love. However if NTR, Krishna, Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna and Pawan Kalyan does sacrifices, people do not like.

Okkadu starting scene also did not start like that. Film started with the murder of Achyut. Then scenes like Mahesh Babu thrashing Prakash Raj for trying to take Bhumika comes. Later 'one-week flash back starts' and songs like Radhe Govindam comes. Had this been released in this manner, people would have got confused. One should know whether people will like it or not.

Similarly in NTR's  Brindavanam, had NTR married any one of the heroines, film's result would have been changed. So we left the judgment to people. The same is the case with Chiranjeevi's Yamudiki Mogudu.

Arjun Reddy, however, broke all sentiments. Director hid hero drinking, dying, etc and also heroine breaking her marriage. Had he revealed the suspense, a hero shouldn't be a drunkard. Hero becoming drunkard due to heroine's marriage was enough".
