Union Minister K Chiranjeevi on Saturday called on Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi requesting her to grant Union Territory status to Hyderabad in case of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to media persons after meeting Sonia Gandhi here, Chiranjeevi said that he briefed the Congress president about the advantages of making Hyderabad a Union Territory. He said that the change in the status of Hyderabad would address the concerns of Seemandhra people living in the city. He also requested that Bhadrachalam division should be merged with the residual State of Andhra Pradesh. He said as per records, Bhadrachalam is part of Seemandhra region and the same status should be continued after bifurcation of State.
Chiranjeevi also dismissed the proposal of Rayala Telangana and said that the idea does not excite people of any of the two regions of Rayalaseema or Telangana. He said formation of Rayala Telangana by splitting Rayalaseema region was a not practical.
Reacting to the demand of APNGOs Union President Ashok Babu seeking his resignation, Chiranjeevi said that first Ashok Babu should quit his job before seeking the resignation of other people.
