Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi on Saturday came down heavily on media for linking IT raids at her daughter Sushmita’s in-law house in Chennai with him.
Talking to media persons at his residence, Chiranjeevi alleged that a section of media has launched malicious campaign against him to tarnish his political image. He also ruled out rumours that he stored the money at his daughter's house to influencing the voters in the election campaign.
Stating that IT raids at her in-laws house were common as they are involved in many businesses, Chiranjeevi advised the media to verify the facts before launching malicious campaign against the leaders. He said that there was no need for him to accumulate wealth illegally.
Stating that freedom of press was important, he said that however, the journalists should not violate the privacy of individuals at any cost. He suggested the media not to resort to character assassination by leveling baseless charges against him.
Chiranjeevi said that he was planning to file a defamation suit against Sakshi newspaper and TV channel for going ahead with baseless news against him and damaging his image. Stating that no criminal could escape from the law, he said that the law would take it course and would not spare anyone.
