Film fraternity is struck with tragedies and even before one could over come the loss of legendary filmmaker K.Vishwanath, movie lovers got another shock when they came to know that renowned singer  Vani Jayaram passed away.

Vani Jayaram passed away after she suffered injuries on her forehead at her house on Haddows Road, Nungambakkam in Chennai. 78 year old Vani Jayaram recently was conferred with the Padma Bhushan . Vani Jayaram sang many chartbusters in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tulu and Oriya. Vani Jayaram has won National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer thrice and received State awards from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, and Odisha. She sang more than 10,000 songs and completed 50 years in her person.  She collaborated with legendary composers including MS Ilaiyaraaja, RD Burman, KV Mahadevan, OP Nayyar and Madan Mohan, among others.

Vani Jairam born as Kalaivani on 30 November 1945 in Vellore in Tamil Nadu, is the fifth daughter in a family of six daughters and three sons to Duraisamy Iyengar–Padmavathi. Her first song in Telugu was "Eppativalekaadura Naa Swami" from Abhmaanavanthulu in 1973. She sang many hit in songs in films like Pooja, Sankarabharanam, Srutilayalu, Swathikiranam and recorded most of the dubbed songs from Tamil composed by Ilaiyaraaja.

Celebrities from all quarters expressed their shock and offered their condolences to the bereaved family members.
