Samantha Ruth Prabhu's next is a mythological love story Shaakuntalam. In the love drama, the actress stars as Shakuntala. The film is based on poet Kalidas's 'Abhignana Shaakunlatam' on Adi Parva in Hindu epic Mahabharata. As it is mythological film, Samantha will be seen wearing a lot of jewellery in the film. Team collaborated with Vasundhara Diamond Roof for the film. The jewelry is designed by Vasundhara Jewels. Samantha used the jewelry imported from Amsterdam.

Gunasekhar is directing this film in 3D while his daughter Neelima Guna along with Dil Raju is Producing the film. The film stars Dev Mohan as Raja Dushyant while Manisharma scored the music. Allu Arjun's daughter Allu Arha is making her debut on screen in the role of Prince Bharata.
