Reason Behind Sanjay Dutt's Exit From Welcome To The Jungle

Ahmed Khan’s star-studded comedy Welcome To The Jungle arrived with one of Bollywood’s biggest ensemble casts, but several high-profile names announced at launch were missing from the final film. Sanjay Dutt, Inaamulhaq, Sharib Hashmi, Rahul Dev, and singer Mika Singh all exited during production for different reasons, ranging from health issues to scheduling conflicts and creative concerns. Despite the changes, the Akshay Kumar-led entertainer opened strong and crossed the ₹100 crore mark worldwide within days of release.
Sanjay Dutt’s departure drew the most attention after he was prominently featured in the announcement video alongside Akshay Kumar and appeared on early posters. Multiple reports cite health concerns linked to his recovery from cancer as the primary reason. As per Bollywood reports, Dutt shot for only one day in Madh Island before opting out because his role required heavy action sequences he felt unable to perform post-treatment.
Director Ahmed Khan clarified there was no fallout, adding that Dutt had to travel to the US for medical treatment and date clashes with over 30 actors made rescheduling impossible. Khan also noted Dutt loved the script and was thrilled to work with friends like Jackie Shroff and Akshay, but ultimately stepped aside after filming a small portion. Other reports suggested chaotic sets and lack of a bound script contributed to his decision to “bow out without wasting the time of the director and the production”.
Sharib Hashmi and Rahul Dev both cited scheduling issues. Hashmi had even shot a promotional song but had to drop out when delayed shoot dates clashed with The Family Man Season 3. Dev revealed his commitment to Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis prevented him from joining Welcome To The Jungle, despite wanting to be part of the project. Singer Mika Singh appeared in the film’s initial teaser but does not feature in the final cut, and no official reason has been disclosed for his absence. Interestingly, his brother Daler Mehndi makes a cameo instead.
