Shahrukh Khan's spy action thriller Pathaan, which released in January of this year, has been the highest-grossing film in Hindi for months. There has been speculation about whether SRK's recent release Jawan, that hit theatres on September 7, will be able to dethrone Pathaan or Sunny's Gadar 2, which released on August 11.
Gadar 2 and Jawan have been competing to become the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time, surpassing Pathaan. Now in its seventh week in theatres, Gadar 2 has crossed the lifetime business of SRK's previous release Pathaan and is now the highest-earning Hindi film of all time. Gadar 2 made Rs 2.75 crore on Wednesday with its current total now at Rs 524.75 crore at the domestic box office. This number is a few lakhs more than Pathaan's total collection of Rs 524.53 crore.
Jawan is slowly approaching the Rs 600 crore mark in India, having minted Rs 579.93 crore nett in all languages. The film was released in three languages: Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. While it's Hindi version crossed Rs 520 Crores. In the coming days it will surely cross Gadar 2 and emerge as highest grossing Hindi film in domestic market.
Gadar 2 is the sequel to the 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which was a huge blockbuster back then. Sunny Deol plays Tara Singh, an Indian truck driver, and Ameesha Patel plays Sakeena, a Pakistani woman, in the film.
