Refusing the state government’s plea asking for death to Yelchuri Manohar for killing MCA student Ravuri Sri Lakshmi in 2004, the Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the Andhra Pradesh High Court ruling said that the killer will spend his life in prison.

The state government had filed an appeal asking the Apex Court to overturn the High Court ruling and sentence the rowdy-sheeter who killed Sri Lakhsmi, an MCA student of Sarada College in 2004.

Manohar had taken the life of the girl who was his opponent in the College group politics.

He was convicted by a local Court under Sections 302 IPC (murder) and also under Section 27 of the Indian Arms Act for using the knife.

The local Court had found Manohar guilty and sentenced him to death. The defense had however approached the High Court which commuted the death sentence to life.

The state government however expresses dismay at the verdict of the High Court and approached the Supreme Court, seeking the overturning of the life sentence.
