Gunasekhar is known for his penchant for Hindu epics and mythological entertainers. He is popular for being grandiose in sets and extravaganzas and goes to any extent to realize his dream. He went on a mission to show the story of Rudramadevi, the Kakatiya Queen, and the glory of Kakatiyas in his film Rudramadevi.

He cast Anushka in the lead while Rana and Allu  Arjun played important roles. Now he came with Shaakuntalam, to showcase the beautiful love story of Shakuntala and Dushyant on the big screen. He roped in Samantha in the lead role.

Gunasekhar went for 3D versions for both films and many wondered why he went for 3D. In both films, 3D effects VFX and graphics turned out to be the big letdown. Rudramadevi was released right after Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali and after Baahubali's visual extravaganza, people did not find Rudramadevi's 3D version or the war scenes impactful. Even the valor of Rudramadevi is not shown powerfully and Allu Arjun's cameo as Gona Ganna Reddy saved it for some time.

Shaakuntalam was released after a long time of people experiencing Rajamouli's RRR. The film lacked the soul and Gunasekhar concentrated on 3D effects, they turned out to be substandard. This shows that Gunasekhar should concentrate on the powerful screenplay and impactful narration rather than go for a visual extravaganza in the name of the 3D format. He cannot take people for a ride or fool them with 3D effects.
