Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups story revolves around the dread gangster and the happenings in his life and how he reacts and the impact it creates.

Raya ( Yash) quickly becomes the dreaded don of Goa which is under Portuguese rule even after India's Independence. The intense power struggle to rule Goa brings drastic changes in Raya's life.

Where this leads to and how it is connected to Raya's sister Ganga (Nayanthra), Nadia (Kiara), Elizabeth (Huma Qureshi), Rebecca (Tara Sutaria), Mellisa (Rukmini Vasanth), Salvador (Darrel D Silva) , Tony (Akshay Oberoi), Karmad (Sudev Nair), Bheera (Balaji Manohar), Ticket (Young Yash) form the interesting part.

Yash came up with a sincere performance. He looked stylish and macho in his appearance. He with his screen presence created the required impact. Nayanthara got a role which is ok. Kiara Advani scorched red hot and offered very little when it comes to performance. Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth tried to ooze with glamor but for limited scope to showcase their acting talent.

There are many other actors like Sudev Nair, Akshay Oberoi, Balaji Manohar, Darrell D Silva who tried to do justice for their roles but got little chance to do so.

Toxic Movie: Technicians Review

The story of Toxic is penned by Geetu Mohan Das. The narration starts in an interesting and action packed manner but from then on everything fall apart as quickly as it starts. There are many action sequences and intense intimate scenes but everything looks directionless bringing a tame end to the first half.

Many expected a better second half but it turns out to be even worse. There are many female actresses but none of them got a powerful role to make an impact. Geetu Mohan Das tried to attract viewers with brother sister relationship, father -son sentiment and many romantic elements but everything looks disjointed and ended up testing the patience of all and irritating them.

Even when people wait patiently praying for the end, they will get another shock in the pre climax and climax with psychological elements. The story has many threads but none of them are answered in a convincing manner and few of them despite the lengthy runtime left unanswered and the screenplay turned ridiculous to the core. The direction turned out to be a huge disappointment. The script turned out to be lackluster. Dialogues are just ok and dubbing made the matters worse.

Geetu Mohan Das completely failed to do justice to the stardom of Yash and his character turned listless and aimless on the screen. When the main character itself turned out in this way, one can imagine the characterisation of other roles. All lacked emotional depth and came with over the top performances.

The songs tuned by Ravi Basrur, Vishal Mishra, Tanishk Bagchi are not up to the mark. They impact looked forced and failed to make an impression. Ravi Basrur scored the background score and it is ok at times but most of the time it turned out to be below average. The Cinematography of Rajeev Rai turned the film into a visually appealing one. She showed the scenes in a natural way and created the Goa scenes showing Portuguese role in a realistic way. The editing of Ujwal Kulkarni turned out to be disappointing. There are many scenes that could have been trimmed or done away with. Production values of grand.

Altogether, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups turns out to be director's revenge on viewers. Geetu Mohan Das tried to show Yash in a powerful role full of emotions in the backdrop of intense romantic elements. However, she failed completely to do justice to the faith shown on her by Yash.

The story looked ok to some extent, though predictable, but she drew inspiration from films like KGF, Animal and others. Instead of coming up with the strong story and gripping screenplay Director concentrated only on action elements and intimate scenes. She failed to realise that style alone will not guarantee success. The convoluted screenplay made the things worse. No amount of changes would have changed the final result.

Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 2 rating for Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups
