Movie lovers and those in Tollywood got a huge shock when many celebrities' names cropped up during the 2017 drug racket. It created a sensation in two Telugu states and a Special Investigation Team was formed to crack the case by punishing the drug peddlers. The peddlers revealed the names of 11 Tollywood celebrities sending shock waves in the industry. A drug peddler had the names of 62 celebrities on his phone.
While the investigation was on, many celebrities cried foul and some even called it a witch-hunting. Later the case went into a backburner and no updates came and this triggered rumors that the Government and the officials are trying to save the celebrities.
An Ngo Forum For Good Governance through Right To Information Act (RTI) got the details of the case progress and the current situation. It is coming out that 12 cases were registered and four charge sheets had been filed. What is shocking all is none of the 11 celebrities were named in the charge sheet and they presented them as victims and not as accused.
The Ngo is alleging a sensational coverup by the Government authorities and SIT officials to save the Tollywood celebrities.
