2019 is nearing completion and a quick recap of the year's journey reveals how the so called top stars of Tollywood failed to resolve the thirst of movie lovers by failing at the box office. While few heroes had sweet memories of the year, many had nightmares. Overall this year turned out to be a disappointment for Tollywood as even the so called pan India films became duds at the box office.
The start of the year witnessed Natasimha Balakrishna get a huge shock when his prestigious biopic on his dad, legendary actor NTR, which released in two parts Kathanayakudu and Mahanayakudu bombed at the box office.
Even Mega Power Star Ram Charan, fresh from a industry hit like Rangasthalam, got a shock in form of Vinaya Vidheya Rama. These two films left the distributors more than 50% losses.
It is better we talk as less as possible about the trolls the two films got on social media. The performance of these two films affected the first quarter of the year.
Venkatesh, Varun Tej multi starrer F2 used the Sankranti season to enter into the top ten grossers list. The film minted close to Rs 85 Cr share worldwide.
Super Star Mahesh Babu powered the first half of the year with his milestone 25th film Maharshi. The film despite the divide talk collected Rs 101 cr share worldwide.
Prabhas failed miserably with Saaho which failed to reach the high expectations across the country.
Sye Raa from Chiranjeevi stood as average grosser given the scale of promotions.
Medium range films like Majili, Jersey, Gaddalakonda Ganesh, Oh Baby did well and entered into the top ten grosser list. Samantha had two films in the top ten grossers.
The small films like Brochevarevarura, Agent Sai Srinivas Atreya, Falaknuma Das got good collections. But Tippara Meesam turned out to be a disaster.
Overall Tollywood Star heroes failed to set the box office on fire this year.
