Simultaneously, the salaries of leading actors have skyrocketed from Rs. 15 crores to Rs. 65 crores, and some directors now command 25 crore salaries, pushing the industry to the brink.According to an anonymous producer, "Inexperienced producers have wreaked havoc on the industry. They often don't grasp the basic storyline of a film until it's ready for release. The actual filmmaking is carried out by the stars and directors, while producers function more like production managers, simply providing the funds."
The consequences of this trend have been dire, with around 40 films, including those featuring big stars, failing at the box office this year. Some producers have suffered health setbacks, while others have had to sell their assets to release a film, and a few are grappling with losses exceeding Rs 100 crore despite delivering successful films. The rising budgets, driven by escalating actor salaries, have placed immense pressure on producers while stars and technicians are building lavish homes.
As established producers step back, the industry is seeing an influx of neo-rich producers from various industries.
