Karnataka Assembly to meet for 5-day special session in Sept
The Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr B S Yeddyurappa, on Wednesday announced that a special five-day Legislative Assembly Session would be called in September second week to exclusively discuss steps to be taken for overall rural development and sort out issues with the Opposition parties.
“Next budget will lay more stress on rural development and I want Opposition parties to support it. I invite the entire Opposition to have a debate during the five-day special session. I also want to sort out differences with the Opposition benches during the session. My Government is committed to doing good work and the Opposition should also allow us to do so. The move is first of its kind in the history of Karnataka Legislative Assembly,” Mr Yeddyurappa said.
On Leader of Opposition in Assembly, Mr Siddaramaiah’s comments on State’s finance and power situation, Mr Yeddyurappa said Mr Siddaramaiah has become a normal political leader after assuming the post of the Leader of the Opposition. “I request him to behave more responsibility and be a construction leader”.
“Pertaining to power situation, Mr Siddaramaiah should catch the neck of the Central Government, which is showing step-motherly attitude towards Karnataka. The Centre has done a lot of injustice to the State by providing only 1,000 MW power instead of 1,500 MW from grid. The State is forced to purchase power from outside. Within one year, the government has made efforts to generate additional 2,200 MW power. We are doing our best,” he said.
Asked about BJP chances in forthcoming by-elections, Mr Yeddyurappa said that BJP will try to win all five Assembly seats riding on development works carried out. “The fight would be between BJP and Congress-JD(S) combine. It’s an open secret that Congress-JD(S) always make secret alliance and always lose elections”.
