Appealing to a 30-member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture delegation to bring the problems of the farmers to the notice of the Central Government, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said that the state government has failed on all fronts to help the tillers in Andhra Pradesh.

Talking to media persons at his residence after his meeting with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture delegation, led by Basudeb Acharya, Mr Naidu said that the only hope left for the farmers was now the Centre since the state government has failed on all aspects to help them. “The condition of the farmers in the state is pathetic as the government has failed to help them on all aspects,” Mr Naidu said.

“The farmers in the state are in a fix due to the lackadaisical attitude of the state government and it has failed in helping the farmers,” the former chief minister told the delegation.

“The farmers in the state have declared `crop holiday’ as government failed to provide the Minimum Support Price for their produce,” Mr Naidu continued and appealed to the delegation to bring the farmers problems to the notice of Union Government.

The TDP chief also appealed to the Parliamentary Committee to push for the implementation of MS Swaminathan Committee Recommendations for the benefit of farmers.

Mr Naidu also sought the cooperation of Mr Basudeb Acharya in helping the farmers of state to come out from the debt trap. He also sought the cooperation of delegation to make the farming a profitable vocation.

Mr Naidu also submitted a memorandum to the delegation in this connection.

Responding to Mr Naidu’s memorandum, Mr Basudeb Acharya said the delegation would bring the woes of farmers to the notice of the Centre and state government.

He said that Naidu suggestions and recommendations would be taken into consideration.
