Behind the Movie Dil Deewana: Except the attendance of Kapil Dev for audio launch of this film and director Kiran Thumma, a protégé of Sekhar Kammula, there is nothing which pulls your interest towards this. As said to be a romantic entertainer with youthful appeal, let us see how far our heart goes for the film?

In the Movie Dil Deewana: Story begins with introduction to Prashanth (Nalla Venu) and Pawan (Dhanraj) introduced at a late night party go on to narrate their respective love stories.

Prashanth hails from a well to do family falls in love with Sri Lakshmi (Kritika Singhaal) during Pelli Choopulu. However, she is already in love with Surya (Raj Arun) from past five years. Surya holds responsibility of getting his sister married before committing to Sri Lakshmi. But, Prashanth is still on with the tactics of impressing Sri Lakshmi.

Pawan is the only son of millionaire pharmacy industrialist Tilak (Naga Babu) who falls flat with the looks of Divya (Neha Deshpande). Around the same time, aspiring director Santosh (Rohit) enters into Divya’s life and they become love birds. To see son Pawan happy, father Tilak sketches a plot with help of Prashanth working in his company to create a rift between Divya and Santosh. In the process, opinion differences pop even between Surya and Sri Lakshmi leading to a break up. When Tilak realized the honesty in two pairs, how did he react?

Values & Out of the Movie Dil Deewana: For any romantic film to touch our hearts, all it requires is a soul in narration with supporting artists fulfilling their characters. Unfortunately, Kiran Thumma belonging to Sekhar Kammula’s school missed these basic elements. In spite of having a wonderful technical team on hand, he delivered a lifeless film. Dialogues were pretty casual serving the scene and content yet they failed to register. Screenplay has something new yet plain and simple with no complexity. Jayapal Reddy’s camera work is brilliant which illuminated the screen. In fact, this is one and only factor which made me sit for 120 odd minutes bearing the boredom. Editing of Karthik Srinivas needed many trimmings. Next positive from the film is Ram Narayan’s pleasing musical score. Production values of Raja Reddy are worth appreciable.

Performance wise, except Kritika and Naga Babu, everyone looked artificial. Kritika isn’t a stunning beauty. She has an expressive face suitable for a set of characters. In contrast, Neha is gorgeous in looks with no screen presence. With no lip sync for heroines, technically these characters are killed. OMG, Raj Arun is a complete dud and Rohit is just better. They both looked handsome but that was not enough here. Dhanraj and Nalla Venu got lengthy screen presence and as usual, they did well. To mention in special, they are the on screen heroes for this film.

As mentioned earlier, the changing trends and tastes of modern day urban audience should be catered by directors like Kiran Thumma. To keep it simple, ‘Dil Deewana’ could have been a decent romantic youthful family entertainer, if the lag in narration was removed and performance from artists had a heart beat. Neither, lead pairs have a ‘Dil’ nor there romance was like ‘Deewana.’ Just the technical brilliance of cameraman and impressive musical score defined ‘Dil Deewana’ to be called as a ‘MOVIE.’

Cinejosh Verdict of Dil Deewana: Soft & Smooth But Not Tasty.
