Behind the Movie Chandi: Actress Priyamani known as true performer shifted to glamour side and is now slowly losing the hold in industry. At this juncture, a female oriented story from a powerful director like Samudra can do the trick. Let us see, how efficacious is this ‘Chandi’?

In the Movie Chandi: Story begins with introduction of Ganga (Priyamani) as a politician belonging to Mannem Veerudu Alluri Seetharama Raju family. Using the inputs of Chandrasekhar Azad (Sarath Kumar), she is on a killing spree of Police Officer (GV), IAS Officer (Vinod Kumar)  and a rowdy (Supreet). To crack these mysterious killings, CBI Officer Srimannarayana (Naga Babu) and SI Gabbar Singh (Posani) are allocated the task. In a turn-around of events, during the process of investigation Ganga’s flashback is revealed.

Ganga is the great-grand daughter of Alluri Seetharama Raju and daughter to Ashok Gajapathi Raju (Krishnam Raju) living in the village of Krishnadevapatnam. Eyed on the rich granite reserves in village, politician (Ashish Vidyarthi) is teamed with police, IAS officers and a rowdy to evacuate the entire village by killing the majority of population including that of Ashok Gajapathi Raju family. The only saved in family is Ganga who transforms into Chandi under the training of Azad. Rest is the completing of carnage.

Values & Out of the Movie Chandi: Try searching even with a high magnification microscope, you find hard to find at least one plus point for the film including that of heroine Priyamani. In fact, few comedy portions of Posani as Gabbar Singh are better than the horrible story of Samudra who still seems to be in the era of 1980 playing with action filled revenge drama. Dialogues penned to elevate the heroism in Priyamani’s character are terribly shocking. Chinna’s background score is further devastating while song compositions of Shankar are worst. With no proper cinematography, there was no necessity for Nandamuri Hari to use minimal logics in editing. So, technically this is a deft film.

Performance wise, Priyamani contending for Vijayashanti’s position as next Tollywood Action Heroine is not bad but surely, this is not the quality of story and script she should accept. In one word, Priyamani is killing the career with own hands. To be more frank, Priyamani does not have that energy and looks to emote like Vijayashanti or Anushka. Then, Krishnam Raju is wasted while Ashish Vidyarthi, Supreet, Vinod Kumar, GV and the rest are unbearable. While Posani is okay, Ali is adman waste.

For regular movie buffs and even for admirers of Priyamani, this movie will be disgusting. With just taking the name of Alluri Seetharama Raju or touching the episodes like Nirbhaya, atrocities on women, how a senior like Samudra thought of prolonging the movie for 139 minutes is still to be understood. In one sentence, this is just a pure scrap. Never go near ‘Chandi,’ she will chop your heads ruthlessly.
