L2 Empuraan, the latest Malayalam political actioner starring Mohanlal, has taken the box office by storm, grossing Rs 200 crore worldwide within just five days. The film, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, has received mixed reviews but has been performing steadily at the box office. With a domestic box office collection of Rs 68 crore in all languages, Empuraan has become the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2025, surpassing Rekhachithram and Officer On Duty.

The long Eid weekend has contributed significantly to the film's commercial success. Empuraan has also broken records by becoming the fastest Malayalam film to gross Rs 100 crore globally. It has also surpassed Manjummel Boys to become the highest Malayalam grosser ever outside India, with a collection of Rs 140 crore in just three days. Despite being embroiled in controversy, Empuraan continues to perform well at the box office.

The film faced controversy due to its portrayal of the Gujarat riots, which led to right-wing groups pointing out certain portions of the film. As a result, the makers of Empuraan made 17 modifications to the film, and a new version is set to be released soon. Mohanlal also extended an apology regarding the controversy. Despite this, the film's performance at the box office has been unaffected.

L2 Empuraan boasts an impressive cast, including Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and Suraj Venjaramoodu. The film is written by Murali Gopi and produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Subaskaran Allirajah, and Gokulam Gopalan under Aashirvad Cinemas, Lyca Productions, and Sree Gokulam Movies, respectively.
