Kamal Haasan on why he left Bollywood.Kamal Haasan, a legend in Tamil cinema, made a brief foray into Bollywood in 1981 with "Ek Duuje Ke Liye." However, his experience left him disillusioned with the industry's practices and ultimately led to his decision to focus on his South Indian career.

In a 2017 interview, Kamal expressed his reasons for leaving Bollywood: "Those times were like that. I was a poorer cousin of Hindi cinema... They could make one film for two and a half years and do 6 films at a time. That was defeating in character-building, both morally and technically."

He also revealed his aversion to the underworld connections that were prevalent in the industry: "There were too many underworld connections. I didn't want to stay there to either oppose it or succumb to the threat. I was one of the actors to decide I would not have anything to do with black money."

Kamal's stance solidified his commitment to a more ethical and morally sound path in the film industry. He proudly stated, "It is possible to make it big without corruption. I'm living proof of it."

Despite his rejection of Bollywood's allure, Kamal has now returned to the Hindi film scene with a villainous role in the upcoming sci-fi epic "Kalki 2898 AD." He has collaborated extensively with director Nag Ashwin to craft his character, a sage with "a bad idea."

"I was mourning to Amit ji in the backstage that I always wanted to play the bad man," he shared. "The bad man gets to do all the good things in films."

Kamal's return to Bollywood, not as a struggling newcomer but as a seasoned icon with a unique perspective,  is sure to add another dimension to the ambitious project. With a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani, "Kalki 2898 AD" promises to be a cinematic spectacle.

The film, releasing on June 27th, has generated significant buzz. Whether it lives up to the hype remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Kamal Haasan, the rebel who chose his own path, continues to captivate audiences with his unwavering commitment to his principles and his undeniable talent.
