Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. The Prime Minister reached Gannavaram airport in Vijayawada by a special aircraft from New Delhi at 2.20 pm. He was received at the Gannavaram Airport by Chief Minister K Rosaiah, Krishna District Collector Peeyush Kumar, Vijayawada City Police Commissioner K V Rajendranath Reddy and other government officials.
Later accompanied by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah in a copter, he surveyed the flood-hit areas of Krishna and Guntur districts . Manmohan Singh had a clear view of the villages along the banks of river Krishna which were ravaged by the flood waters. The Prim Minister is expected to make an aerial survey of flood-affected Mahaboobnagar and Kurnool Districts on Saturday morning before flying to Karnataka. Police made elaborate security arrangements at the airport in view of the Prime Minister's visit. The Andhra Pradesh government had put the initial estimate of losses at Rs 12,250 crore and sought an immediate central assistance of Rs 6,000 crore from the Centre
