Hyderabad, July 18 :-
The Centre on Saturday has ordered the Central Water Commission to submit a report on the row surrounding the construction of crest gates of Babli project by Maharashtra Government.
This is in response to a memorandum submitted by a delegation from Andhra Pradesh comprising Ministers -- D. Sridhar Babu, P. Sudarshan Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao, party legislators from Nizamabad, Karimangar, Adilabad and Warangal besides former Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy. The delegation who called on the Union Minister for Water Resources Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal on Friday sought Central intervention to direct the Maharashtra Government to stall further construction.
The delegation also explained Bansal how the Maharashtra Government willfully dishonored the interim directions issued by the Supreme Court not to erect crest gates till the case was disposed of. Erection of crest gates at Babli would leave northern Telangana districts dry without water.
